@ Gary.. To add an overlay shine i usually just Ctrl-click the icon in the layer i’m adding shine to.. then with the item selected i go over to the tools panel and choose either.. the rectangular or circular marquee tool… whichever you prefer and draw out a shape over your selected item while holding the Alt key on your keyboard… then all you do is add a new color fill or gradient to this new selection… and voila! you can tweak it as you like to get the desired effect.
YOu can also use the Polygonal Lasso tool to draw a shape over the desired item.. then simply go over to your layers panel and Ctrl+Alt+Shift + Click inside the icon within the layer.. then all you do is add a new color or gradient fill and tweak it till you get the desired shine effect.. Hope that helps!

  2. Quick fact. Photoshop was made by Thomas & John Knoll.

  3. @Gary: Ctrl + Click the layer containing what you want to add the shine to, then select the elipse select tool and set it, using the top bar, to ‘intersect with selection’.

Drag the elipse a lot wider so that an edge is close to flat, let go, you have the selection for a shine, make a new layer, fill with white, lower opacity, you have your shine.

Not sure how clear that is, but I tend to struggle with making them with the pen tool so that’s how I add a quick one.

  4. Roberto says:

If you press Alt/Option, keep it pressed and go to the layer panel and to the panel option someone will say Hi to you.

  5. Did you know that if you hold the CTRL key for 30 seconds while clicking on the Rectangle Tool your computer will blow up?

  6. Gary says:

@ Joe thank you as well i tried both ways & i like it Thanks again.

  7. Perhaps Richard, you could also give a price for person who’s commented most to? Smaller than the prize to the 100th but a price nonetheless!

Did you Know: Highlighting text and hitting Ctrl + T brings up the character panel? (At least it does in CS2). The text must be highlighted however, or else it’ll select the free transform tool.

  8. netsnake says:

Cmd-Clicking (Ctrl) something in the canvas with the move tool will select the layer the object you clicked on is located in.

PS: I bet Richard alias Admin will post the 100th comment =) No just joking ;)

  9. ADMIN says:

my comments dont count in this competition :) think i might have to clean up some of the posts to comply with the competition

  10. Select a layer, hold Alt and click the top edge of another layer, it will group them.

    (almost at 100)

  11. netsnake says:

So it says 96 comments, but that’s still less? Hmm… I’m getting excited…
Now a great tip for ps that you might know and you could have used in in you zipper tutorial – remember? ;) Instead of positioning each of these metal things under the zipper, you could have taken the transform tool and moved the first one, then click ok and press cmd+alt+shift+t to transform again – a copy of the “thing” (sorry, my english isn’t that good…) appeated, right under the fitst one, just like you wanted it. Repeat the shortcut several times and you get a whole row of these “things” =)

  12. ADMIN says:

ALL non competition posts have been deleted!

dont forget my posts dont count :)

  13. Gary says:

Any one know a good setting for a shadow on text say around size 40?

  14. netsnake says:

So to make things easier,Gary’s post is the 81st…

You can easily help CS4’s new feature “Content aware scaling” by roughly selecting the object you want to keep unchanged, and then saving it as a channel. Select the channel in a special option of the tool.

  15. Cai Johnson says:

You can easily help yourself and subscribe via RSS to this awesome website ;)

By click CTRL + F you making your las used filter.

  16. Gary says:

@ netsnake thank you but i’m using cs3 right now till i can get cs4.

  17. netsnake says:

@Gary: Well that wasn’t exactly the answer to your problem because I don’t know it, I just had to throw some kind of tip in to make my comment count =)

Another tip: If you haven’t got an English Keyboard like me but still want to increase/decrease your brush size with shortcuts, you can go to Edit>Shortcuts and set, for example, . and , for these actions. (Because I don’t have bracket keys on my German Keyboard)

  18. Gary says:

When using actions on say text make sure you make a copy of it before you use the action you want this way you can delete it if it is not right & not have to do all your work again.

  19. netsnake says:

    @Cai: Well, subscribed since January 2nd! =)

You can get very cool text effects by drawing a path and then writing on it with the Text-on-Path-Tool in the category of the text tools in the toolbar!

    87

  20. Almost there…

Whenever you read about Edit->Transform->Warp, and you can’t find the tool, you’re using a photoshop verion older than CS2, since it has been implented since CS2.

  21. Ben Lind says:

You can customize any Photoshop shortcuts by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts… And then putting the new shortcuts into the dialog.

  22. .RevO says:

Just redownloaded and installed dreamweaver and ps cs4 on my new sony viao.

  23. netsnake says:

89 – I think that we will reach 100 on Thursday or Friday…

If you want to align elements, like multiple small images, eg at the same height, you might want to switch on the smart guides, you can find them in View>Show>Smart Guides. I have them on all the time, although they can be really annoying sometimes… but I’ll post in my next comment how to real with this problem very quickly! =)

  24. Gary says:

    Fast layer style

    inner shadow = multiply opacity = 75 angle = 90 choke = 20 size = 10 color = 000000

    inner glow = overlay opacity = 55 source = center size = 46 range = 25 jitter = 75 color = ffffff

    gradient overlay color = 424242 x 5b5b5b style = linear opacity = 100 angle = 90 scale 100

  25. admin says:

i count 92 posts (which doesnt include mine)

  26. exciting

  27. Gary says:

Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw software works with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Bridge. You can use Photoshop Camera Raw software to import and adjust camera raw, JPEG, and TIFF files.

  28. Adobe Photoshop CS4 Uses Tabs which are rather annoying. Be sure to turn them off in your preferences.

  29. Poison3k says:

Photoshop has a very handy tool that I like. It’s the Image Processor found in File>Scripts>Image Processor.

It offers you several options for converting image types, resolutions, colorspaces and running actions.

  30. I hear if you add a 1px white stoke on soft light on a logo it helps.

  31. admin says:

    96 – 4 more posts to go…..

  32. Carlos says:

PS… stands for Phososhop (duh!) Sorry, but I’ve used PS just once, I’m new to it.

  33. If im right, since Photoshop CS4 the calculation of filters and stuff is more done by the GPU (Graphics card’s processor) than the CPU (witch is your regular processor).

  34. netsnake says:

So I just hope that someone (one! :P ) posted in front of me as helpfull hand’s post is the last visible one…

You can create a clipping mask either by selecting a layer and going to layer>create clipping mask or by alt-clicking the line between the two layers in the layers palette. (Shortcut! :)

  35. Gary says:

Photoshop RGB Color mode uses the RGB model, assigning an intensity value to each pixel. In 8?bits-per-channel images, the intensity values range from 0 (black) to 255 (white) for each of the RGB (red, green, blue) components in a color image. For example, a bright red color might have an R value of 246, a G value of 20, and a B value of 50. When the values of all three components are equal, the result is a shade of neutral gray. When the values of all components are 255, the result is pure white; when the values are 0, pure black.

  36. Jamie T says:

I guess its over now then hah.
    Gratz to the winner!

  37. ADMIN says:
